Antique Caucasian Moghan Kazak long rug / runner with a vertical row of 6 hooked medallions.
Circa 1880.
Moghan is a mountainous region to the west of Talish in the southern Caucasus this rug is typical of the region with long thick pile of glossy wool. The hooked medallions are in alternating colours with designs in different colours to the centre. The ivory ground border has a stepped cruciform motif that is also found in Talish rugs. The rug is in excellent condition with slight wear and good pile the rug retains the original end finishes at both ends. Note that the rug is slightly misshapen along its length. The rug is suitable for normal domestic use. The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
