Size: 24ft 5in x 7ft 3in (745 x 220cm).
Antique Kizil Ayak Turkmen carpet of unusually large size and design.
Circa 1900.
This unusual carpet was made by the Kizil Ayak Turkmen of Northern Afghanistan the long narrow shape (known as a kelleh) would suggest that it was made as an audience carpet or commissioned for a specific room in a notable building or even a mosque. The carpet is made up of a design that looks like twelve smaller rugs these could be prayer niches for a mosque. The design is very unique and I am sure that this carpet was extremely important at the time it was made. The carpet is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile this is a superb furnishing carpet that is ideal for a grand entrance hall way. There are one or two very small old historic repairs. The small spot of damage in the end kilim will be repaired. The carpet is suitable for heavy domestic floor use.
