Antique salt bag by the Zaggar Mengal nomads of South West Afghanistan. 

Circa 1900. 

This excellent salt bag is tightly woven with a fine design identical on both sides the bag is decorated with long tassels and small cowrie shells. Note the decorative light blue band across the shoulder of the bag this is an attractive and unusual feature. Salt bags like this were used to carry rock salt which was a very precious commodity to the nomads. The salt bag is in excellent original condition and would make a wonderful wall hanging. This is an outstanding example of type.
