Antique Tekke Turkmen dowry rug of fine weave and small size. 

Circa 1900. 

These rugs are considered to be dowry’ weavings used by the Turkmen bride on her wedding day. This example has 4 rows of 6 Tekke guls on a soft orange /red ground. There are cochineal highlights through out the rug the border is of the traditional Tekke Flag design or Tekbent design as it is known to the Turkmen. The rug retails its original large elem panels at both ends. The rug is in fair condition with some scattered wear and medium / low pile. (This is reflected in the price).
