Antique Caucasian Chelaberd Kazak triple medallion rug.
Circa 1890.
A superb Kazak rug of the sought after and well known Chelaberd design also known as Eagle (Adler) or Sunburst Kazak rugs. These rugs are from the Karabagh region of the South West Caucasus and are considered to be of Armenian origin. This example is of a rustic village weave with a well drawn triple medallion the narrow border design is typical for the region. The rug has superb colour with soft terracotta reds yellows blues greens ivory and browns; the weave is typical Kazak weave with long thick glossy pile. Great condition very slight even wear with excellent pile. There is some corrosion to the browns. The rug has superb thick heavy pile with a pelt like feel. Hand washed and ready for use or display. The rug is suitable for normal domestic use or would make a great display item.
