Antique salt bag by the Zaggar Mengal nomads of South West Afghanistan.
Circa 1900.
This excellent salt bag is tightly woven with a fine design identical on both sides the bag is decorated with long tassels and cowrie shells. Salt bags like this were used to carry rock salt which was a very precious commodity to the nomads. The salt bag is in excellent original condition and would make a wonderful wall hanging. This is a very good example of type.
