Antique Turkish or Eastern European reproduction of an 18th century Caucasian 'blossom' rug.
Circa 1920.
This rug is an outstanding reproduction of the well-known 18th century Caucasian Karabagh region 'blossom' rug. It is thought that this reproduction was woven in Turkey or possibly Eastern Europe during the early part of the 20th century, it has been suggested that it could be from the workshop of the master weaver Teodor Tuduc, who had workshops in Brasov, Romania; and produced copies of some of the greatest 16th - 18th century rugs.
The rug is of fine with with very soft wool, the foundation has hand spun ivory coloured wool warps, giving a very floppy handle.
The rug has some even wear and medium pile, it has been hand washed and is ready for use or display. The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
