Antique Afghan Ersari Turkmen carpet with traditional Ersari large gul design. 

Circa 1900. 

The carpet has four vertical rows of eight large Ersari octagonal guls; the guls show that the carpet was woven by the Sulayman sub tribe of the Ersari in the Andkhoy region of northern Afghanistan. The carpet is of a very pleasing soft warm madder red colour with the design in indigo blue. The carpet is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile this is a superb furnishing carpet that is ideal for a living or dining room. The carpet is suitable for heavy domestic floor use.
