Antique South Caucasian Karabagh Kazak rug with triple medallion and a Kufic style border.

Circa 1900.

A good example of the traditional Karabagh region Kazak rug with three medallions. Many consider the medallions to be Turkmen inspired but there are also links to the Caucasian dragon rugs and the Chelaberd (eagle) Kazak rugs. The large medallions are well drawn and are on a soft terracotta field this contains many tribal design elements including birds animals stars everlasting knots and other tribal devices. The large ivory ground border is a variation of the Kufic design notice how the colours change in the border at the lower end. The rug is in good condition with even wear and good pile there are a couple of fingertip spots of heavier wear. The rug is suitable for normal domestic use. The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
