Antique Afghan Bahluli Baluch or Timuri rug with a repeat gul design.

Circa 1880.

Bahluli Baluch rugs are fairly scarce and originate from the borders of Western Afghanistan and the Khorasan region of eastern Persia. This example has a repeat Turkmen inspired gul design in diagonal rows of alternating colours including various shades of blue and a clear green. The border is related in design to others found on Bahluli rugs. It is suggested that this rug could also have been woven by nomads of the Timuri tribes. The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium / low pile. The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
