Circa 1880.
The rug has two large latch hook medallions on a indigo blue field. The medallions are surrounded by tribal design elements; these include a horse rider and many animals. The ivory ground border is of a classic Kazak design. The rug has glossy wool with a soft floppy handle as expected it has multiple wefts. The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and good pile; lower in a few spots the blacks are slightly corroded and there are a few very small old repairs. The rug is suitable for normal domestic use. The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display. This rug is a really outstanding example of tribal folk art.
