Antique South West Caucasian Sewan Kazak rug of the traditional key hole’ design also known as octagon ended medallion design.

Dated 1288 (1871).

The rug is of a very unusual small size it is very well drawn with excellent colour and superb soft wool. The large central medallion is in indigo blue with a small madder red octagon medallion to the center. The field of the medallion is filled with stars along with a date panel for 1288. The field is also covered in stars and tribal devices along with another date of 1288. The main border is of a reciprocal arrow head design. The rug is in excellent condition with very slight wear and good pile. The rug has excellent wool with glossy pile. There is slight corrosion to the browns. The rug retains the original braided end finish at the top end. The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use. The rug is suitable for light domestic use and would make a superb display wall hanging. Dated Kazak rugs are scarce this is an outstanding example and would be a good addition to any collection.
