Old Afghan Rug From The Herat Region Of North Western Afghanistan
Product tabs
Old Afghan rug from the Herat region of North Western Afghanistan.
This is an interesting and scarce rug, the design is based on the poppy plant showing both flowering plants and seed heads. The poppy seed head is used in the production of opium and these rugs were woven to celebrate the poppy harvest. Note the outer border is very small fine poppy flowers.
The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile, this is a very fine and thin rug with a very soft floppy handle. This is possibly the finest weave I have seen in an Afghan rug.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use or it would make an excellent wall hanging.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use.
