Antique Timuri or Baluch main carpet of classic hooked medallion design.

Circa 1870.

A good example of a Timuri main carpet with the traditional Timuri hooked medallion design. The carpet probably originates from the area around Farah or Chakhansur, in Western Afghanistan near the borders with eastern Persia. The carpet is woven in shades of madder red, light and dark indigo blue, olive brown and ivory; the overall colour palette is warm, earthy and soft. The main border is of a classic Timuri design. This is an excellent example of type.

The carpet is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile, there is some corrosion to the browns as is to be expected.
