Antique Tekke Turkmen dowry rug of fine weave and small square size. 

Circa 1890. 

These rugs are considered to be dowry’ weavings used by the Turkmen bride on her wedding day. This example has 3 rows of 5 Tekke guls the rug has a very well drawn and detailed border of the sunburst design note the small animals also in the border. The rug has an almost purple aubergine coloured field the elem panels at each end are of the Turkmen tree design. The rug has very fine soft wool with excellent colour. The rug is in fair condition with even wear slightly heavier in places with medium / low pile. There are a few scattered old repairs and the sides have been re-bound the ends are a little ragged.... this is all reflected in the price. The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
