Antique Tekke Turkmen rug, this size of rug is known as ‘dip khali’ which means 'half carpet'.
2nd half 19th century.
The rug is very well drawn with 3 rows of 9 Tekke guls, which are of a large rounded shape. The minor gul is of a classic Tekke design. The borders are of the sunburst design with many small filler elements.
Of particular note are the large elem panels at each end, the lower end is drawn with large trees or shrubs; the top end has rows of small shrubs in alternating colours. Both ends also retain a short ivory panel embroidered with a repeating design.
The rug is in excellent condition with very slight even wear, and good pile. The wool is very soft and the rug has a floppy handle.
The rug has been hand washed and ready for use or display.
A collectable Tekke Turkmen rug of the highest order.
