Antique salt bag by the Tartar nomads of Uzbekistan / northern Afghanistan.

Salt bags by the Uzbek nomads are quite scarce they were used to store rock salt to be given to their animals during the migration. This example has the diamond design to the face and a zig-zag lightening strike design to the neck. The back is a striped plain weave. Note the decorative tassels all around the bag. The salt bag is in excellent condition with some signs of tribal use. The bag has been hand washed and is ready for display.
