Antique Caucasian Zejwa village rug of classic design. 

Circa 1880. 

Zejwa village is about 20km south of the town of Kuba in the eastern Caucasus. Rugs from this village are woven with a very distinctive serrated edge medallion design they are one of the less common of the Caucasian village rugs. This example is very closely related to the example published and discussed on page 304 of Oriental rugs Volume 1 Caucasian by Ian Bennett. The design and border are almost identical to the published example. Excellent condition slight even wear with almost full pile. Hand washed and ready for use or display.
