Antique Caucasian Shirvan region rug with interesting design influences.

Circa 1900.

A very good Shirvan rug that draws on design influences from a number of regions throughout the Caucasus The two linked medallions outlined in red bear a resemblance to a well known group of rugs from the Karabagh. The large peacock like birds are normally associated with the Akstafa region; the drawing in the field including a rider on a horse is often found in rugs from Gendje. The main border design is typically associated with Shirvan weaving. A very attractive rug that would make a great study item. The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile. The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display. The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
