Antique Caucasian Derbent rug of Lesghi star design.
Circa 1900.
The town of Derbent is located on the coast of the Caspian sea in the North East Caucasus and has a long weaving tradition. This small rug is an good example with three large Lesghi star medallions in a very soft blue and are almost floating on the midnight indigo blue coloured field which contains small stars. The traditional Kufic style border frames the rug well. The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile. The rug is of fine weave with soft wool and a floppy handle. The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display the rug is suitable for light domestic use.
