Antique Ersari Turkmen main carpet from Northern Afghanistan of very large size. 

Circa 1900. 

This fine carpet has three rows of nine large guls with a traditional minor gul. The carpet is framed by classic border found in Northern Afghan weavings. The carpet is of exceptionally large size and was probably specially commissioned for use in a local government building or prominent local house. The carpet has a very warm ground colour being a soft red with some brown tones the centre of the guls is in a soft peach / orange. The carpet is in excellent condition with slight wear and good pile there are one or two small spots of slightly heavier wear. The carpet is suitable for normal domestic use such as a dining room or a living room. The carpet has been hand washed and is ready for use. A superb large size furnishing carpet.
