A good pair of antique Yomut Turkmen asmalyk with lattice design. 

2nd half 19th century. 

This pair are a good example of a Yomut Turkmen asmalyk they have an ivory ground with a lattice design which contains the erre gul. The ivory ground border is very well drawn and contains a classic Yomut bird design note the so called bow tie outer border. . Asmalyk were used to decorate the flanks of the camels in the Yomut Turkmen wedding procession they usually formed part of the brides dowry and were woven in pairs. The weave is very fine and the asmalyk have a soft floppy handle. The asmalyk are in good condition with even wear and medium pile. The asmalyk have been hand washed and is ready for display.
